Cognitive Neuroscience Programs

What do the programs do?

Six computer programs have been designed to introduce students to cognitive neuroscience. The programs demonstrate how precise measures of behavior can yield important information about cognitive processes. In particular, subjects explore basic attentional, learning, and language phenomena by measuring speed and accuracy on different tasks.

Each program begins by describing a particular task. Then the subject performs the given task for 2-5 minutes while the data are collected. At the end, the subject receives information about how well they performed, along with a description of the expected results. All six programs can be tried in 40 minutes.

The programs are accompanied by a document which contains a brief summary of the scientific theory behind each task, as well as suggestions for how each program could be integrated into several additional experiments.

How to copy the programs & other notes:

The programs can be used on any Macintosh computer, but are not compatible with PCs.

The programs can be downloaded directly by clicking on the file name, or indirectly via our anonymous ftp site (ftp://ftp.npg.wustl.edu/pub/jaf). The file is titled Cog-Demos.sit.SEA.Hqx. The file is a bin-hexed self-extracting archive created using StuffIt Lite shareware.
